McCall offers a wide range of dining choices whether you’re looking for comfort food, a quick bite or an elegant meal. Just a few of our favorites:
Breakfast goers can’t go wrong at the Pancake House, Waffles ‘n More or Whitetail Resort.
For special occasions in McCall and a memorable experience, our #1 pick is the Blue Moon Outfitters. Proprietor Lisa Whisnant operates a yurt in Ponderosa Park and serves outrageous, multiple course meals inspired by her culinary talents and world travels. Lisa can accommodate up to 26 diners who she meets in the parking lot at Ponderosa State Park—and takes them on a one mile journey to the yurt on snowshoes or cross country skis. Make reservations well in advance. 208.634.3111.
McCall locals know that Evening Rise proprietors, Bill and Corey McDonald, along with their father, Bill, are masters of artisan bread making. A word of advice— get there before the ciabatta bread and/or whole grain loaves are sold out. Along with baking the best bread in the world, they operate a lunch time deli for “East Coast deli-style” sandwiches (i.e. Dagwoods) and the line is out the door. Evening Rise is located at 303 Sunset Street. 208.634.5031 See the Evening Rise article courtesy of McCall Magazine. (pdf 1.3MB)
Another popular spot among locals is “Bonsai Bento” which operates lunchtime everyday but Monday and serves healthy stir fry and light alternatives. Bonsai Bento is located at Crusty’s Pizza at 214 Lenora Street.
The very cool Bistro 45 in the courtyard of the Hotel McCall Is usually rocking with good food, good spirits and good conversation and was mentioned in a recent article about McCall in the New York Times "Mud on the Boots Town is Rising."
In the heart of the Marina District, Babblefish at the Mile High Marina is a winner for upbeat, contemporary fare as well as a killer view of Payette Lake inside and on the deck. Everything is good.
While in the Marina District a stop at Mountain Java is always a treat for a leisurely latte or locally baked goods. For a quick espresso on the run, Wild River Java on 3rd Street provides efficient, drive up service and the wildly popular Junga Juice offerings.
Locals find it nearly impossible to get through Donnelly without a stop at Flight of Fancy for espresso, irresistible baked goods or a boxed lunch. Owners Susan Dorris and Kristal Kangas-Haines open the doors from 7 am to 4 pm daily, Monday through Saturday. You’ll love their humor and their website http://www.dessertjunkies.com/
Locals know to arrive early at The McCall Farmer’s Market. From early summer through early fall local merchants offer fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, nursery stock and hanging baskets every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. The Market is located across from Gravity Sports.
When in McCall discover the joy of Huckleberries which grow prolifically in the acidic soil of our forests and are found between elevations of 2,000 to 7,000 feet. Where you can pick them yourself is a best kept secret among area locals but the Farmer’s Market and area merchants offer them throughout the season. The “Huckleberry Haus Cookbook” by Reverend Stan Simonik is offered by many local retailers and is an excellent resource with over 170 delicious huckleberry recipes.
Another great cookbook is “Cookin’ at the Cabin”, a compilation of comfort food and gourmet meals by the members of The Wednesday Morning Bloody Mary Bridge Club, and is also available at downtown McCall retailers.
